Directors Update - Autumn 2025.

Hi everyone,

I hope the first few weeks of the new school term have gone smoothly for you and your families, and that you found some time over the summer to relax and recharge before autumn routines kicked in.

Our summer highlights were, of course, the four fun-filled 20 Year Family Activity Days. There was fantastic engagement from families, and it was lovely to see so many enjoying the events. I missed the Wildlands Day due to an injury (it will take some time to get rid of the crutches!) and loved the photos from all the events.

Our next big event is the Carer Party on 22nd November. It promises to be the largest one held in our 20-year history. I understand from Dean that we are almost at capacity for bedrooms so if you have not booked – please do so immediately as it promises to be a night of celebration and laughter. We are really thrilled that our three families who have been with FFI from the start will be there on the night for their 20-year award. What an incredible journey for them and how lucky for FFI that they remain as committed today to fostering as they were 20 years ago.

Carer Recruitment:

Jess will provide an update in her section on the ongoing quest for foster carers as the placement crises within Tusla continues. If you know anyone who is interested in fostering, please ask them to get in contact and if approved you are the recipient of our Refer a Friend Scheme with a €1,000 bonus.

Need for Short-Term Fostering Placements:

There are many children each week for whom Tusla cannot find placements as has been evident by the increase in Special Emergency Arrangements often with unqualified staff.  To help with this crisis we are looking to increase the number of FFI foster carers who are willing to provide short term bridging placements. If you think this is an option for you and your family, please let your Link SW or Team Manager know.

Entitlement to State Pension:

A key issue for all foster carers is securing an entitlement to the State Pension. IFCA are currently looking for this as part of pre-Budget Submissions. I encourage each Foster Carer to send the letter suggested by IFCA to your local TDs/Senators to get this across the line for your future.

Email your TDs about foster care supports in Budget 2026

As always if there is anything you wish to bring to my attention, please don’t hesitate to do so by email or by mobile 0879790135.  I look forward to seeing you at the Carer Party and when I visit your Carer Group

With best wishes

 Marie.
