Foster Carer Learning and Development
We are committed to providing our carers with the learning and development opportunities they need to deal with the more complex aspects of their role.
Whether you want to develop your skills or receive specialist training, our team are on hand to give you the support and guidance you need. Your learning starts as part of the assessment process and continues through your journey as a foster carer.
Initial Post-Approval Learning
In the 12 months following approval, you will complete post-approval courses, which consists of seven core e-learning modules:

Valuing diversity and promoting equality
Recording
Child protection
Promoting positive behaviour
Teamwork, communication and access
Attachment
On-going Learning
We offer a range of on-going learning opportunities to help you enhance existing skills and develop new ones throughout your fostering journey.
Courses are available online for you to complete at a time that suits you. Topics include:
Identity and self-esteem
First Aid
Health and safety
Life story work
Internet safety
Advanced attachment
Preparing for leaving care
Parenting with PACE

Fostering allowances for all foster carers are set by the Minister for Children. They represent the maximum that can be paid by us or other independent fostering agencies.
