From Me To You – An Advice Guide For Foster Carers.
On February 18th after almost 18 months of work, Fostering First’s young peoples forum (Known as Chatter Matters) launched their advice bookelt for Foster Carers put together by young people with care experience.
The launch of this booklet took place in The Marlin Hotel in Dublin with over 100 people in attendance. The book launch was supported by colleagues in Tusla, IFCA, EPIC and many more.
Most importantly in attendance were the young people themselves who have put everything they have into this guide based on their experience of the care system in Ireland. Each young person read an extract from the book which was important to them before accepting questions from those in attendance.
Fostering First’s Children’s Officer Aideen O’Brien spearheaded this project and gave the young people all the tools they needed to work on this project.
“The book is really a testament to the young people of chatter matters. They have given their time and invaluable experience to put together something that really hasnt ever been done before in Ireland. They deserve every priase for the work they’ve done“.
Since the launch Fostering First have distributed over 200 copies of the booklet and are now making it available to download as part of Fostering Fortnight.
We hope that everyone who takes the time to read it appreciates the individual experiences and challenges that lead to this piece of work being completed.
