Recruitment Team Update – September 2023
Dear carers,
I hope you are well and enjoyed the summer break, despite the weather! Recruitment has seen an unexpected surge in activity this summer. Despite the usual lull in July and August, we have experienced a high number of enquiries, home visits and started a number of new assessments. We are delighted to see the increase in interest in fostering and these new applicants are welcomed with open arms.
I want to thank all of the carer who have gotten in touch to get involved with promoting fostering, we call these our ‘fostering ambassadors’ and what great ambassadors they are. If any other carers are interested in the ambassador role, please get in touch. It is a great time to join as we are planning a media training session on the 26th of September at 6pm – 8pm. This will be open to all carers but will be on a first come first serve basis as there are only 20 spots available.
Alan Shortt will be conducting the training. Some of you may have heard of Alan, but those that don’t, he is a presenter and comedian best known for working with RTE. The training session will focus on media skills and storytelling abilities. Though appearing on camera can be intimidating this training aims to emphasize the importance of effect communication and how powerful storytelling is for prospective foster carers. Many new foster carer applicants have found our website through our foster carer stories, which helps puts them at ease before sending an enquiry. The impact of these stories has been remarkable.
I would really encourage you all to get in touch and sign up for this training. I have done some work with Alan myself and can assure you he is an excellent trainer and made me feel a lot more confident with public speaking. If you are fostering 15 years or you are only newly approved, you are welcome to join the session. Please email jessica.mooney@ffi.ie to be added to the list.
My contact details are always readily available, so please don’t be a stranger, get in touch if you’d like to chat further about any aspect of recruitment! 😊
Hope to see you soon,
Jess Mooney.
